Power Hour

The West End School "Power Hour" program is a time dedicated to helping your child grow in confidence and discover new passions. We offer a fantastic variety of experiences, from baking and woodwork to robotics and kapa haka, providing a safe space for your child to explore interests they might not encounter in a regular classroom. This variety is key because it helps them figure out what they truly love and are good at. Whether they are building something in EPro8, singing in the choir, or performing in drama, they are building self-esteem, boosting their curiosity, and developing important skills like creativity and problem-solving. This time helps them become well-rounded and ready to tackle anything the future holds!

Crucially, Power Hour is excellent for developing social and life skills.  Group activities like dance, gardening, and working together on ukulele or choir teach them how to work as a team, cooperate, and respect others—skills vital for healthy relationships. Since the goal is simply to try new things, we encourage children to show whakamana and give things a go.  If a woodwork project doesn't turn out right, or a robotics challenge is tough, your child learns the importance of sticking with it and not being afraid to fail. This focus on fun, trying hard, and working together builds resilience and strong communication habits, ensuring your child gains valuable social and emotional intelligence while having a great time.
